Circadian control of brown adipose tissue

چکیده
Disruption of circadian (~24 h) rhythms is associated with an increased risk cardiometabolic diseases. Therefore, unravelling how are regulated in different metabolic tissues has become a prominent research focus. Of particular interest brown adipose tissue (BAT), which combusts triglyceride-derived fatty acids and glucose into heat displays circannual diurnal rhythm its thermogenic activity. In this review, the genetic, neuronal endocrine generation these BAT discussed. addition, potential risks disruption or attenuation BAT, possible factors influencing rhythms, addressed.

Central Control of Brown Adipose Tissue Thermogenesis
Thermogenesis, the production of heat energy, is an essential component of the homeostatic repertoire to maintain body temperature during the challenge of low environmental temperature and plays a key role in elevating body temperature during the febrile response to infection. Mitochondrial oxidation in brown adipose tissue (BAT) is a significant source of neurally regulated metabolic heat prod...

Thermogenesis is a term which can be used to describe any form of heat production, but is normally applied to adaptive or regulatory components of metabolic rate, namely non-shivering thermogenesis (NST) and diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT). NST and DIT are activated in response to physiological stimuli and are largely dependent on sympathetic activation of heat production in brown adipose tiss...

It has long been known, in large part from animal studies, that the control of brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis is insured by the central nervous system (CNS), which integrates several stimuli in order to control BAT activation through the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). SNS-mediated BAT activity is governed by diverse neurons found in brain structures involved in homeostatic regulati...

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) has evolved as a unique thermogenic organ that allows placental mammals to withstand cold environmental temperatures through the dissipation of metabolic energy in the form of heat. Although traditionally believed to be lost shortly after birth, metabolically active BAT depots have recently been identified in a large percentage of human adults. Besides classical brown...
